Program Dates: January 2024 - June 2024
Creative Seeds of Activism Youth Arts Program (CSAYAP) is aimed at youth ages 13-17. Creative Seeds partnered with Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts from January 2024 - June 2024 to provide youth artivists the opportunity to use art as a tool for social change.
By partnering with community artists, leaders, and mental health professionals youth engaged in informed discussions on social issues from a restorative community healing perspective. These discussions on social justice issues influenced the body of work created by students utilizing public art methods such as, but not limited to: Screenprinting, Relief Printmaking, Stenciling, Murals/Graffiti, etc. Final works were then presented at Puerto Alegre giving youth the opportunity of having an art show in their neighborhood.
Creative seeds of Activism was made possible through the YBCA Creative Corp Grant.
Creative Seeds of Activism
Youth Arts Program
The program took place Wednesday’s from 4pm - 6pm and Saturday’s from 12pm - 6pm. On Wednesday’s we had a guest facilitator speak on their artistic experience or a presentation on a social political issue that impacted our community. Saturday’s were students ‘work’ day where they had access to the entirety of Mission Grafica to develop their work. Students were encouraged to approach in an experimental manner often trying things out in order to see what outcome they could achieve.
Field trip to SCRAPS SF to get materials for youth’s final experimental project.
At the end of the program Creative Seeds presented the work they developed throughout the course of the program at Puerto Alegre- a community restaurant. Youth wanted to be able to access their work in the community and many brought their families to the opening.
